Hostage Return is a small tool that helps you decide whether an Italian property is worth buying and how to rent it. We collect the minimum needed to run the service, and we don't sell or share your data with anyone.
What we collect
- Property details you submit (price, sqm, neighborhood, financing). Used to compute the verdict and, if you sign in, to show your past analyses.
- Email — only if you sign in. Used solely to send the magic-link login. We never email you anything else.
- Anonymous product analytics via PostHog (EU hosted). We track page views and a handful of events (e.g. "a user pasted a link", "analysis submitted") to understand drop-off and improve the product. Anonymous visitors do not get persistent profiles.
- Basic request logs and runtime errors (Vercel + Sentry) for debugging.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or share data with third parties.
- We don't track you across the web.
- We don't run behavioral advertising.
Where data lives
- Postgres database (Neon, EU region).
- Analytics: PostHog EU cloud.
- Email delivery: Gmail SMTP — only the magic-link email passes through.
Your choices
- Use the app without signing in — anonymous analysis works fully.
- Sign in to save favorites/history.
- Want your data deleted? Email pietro.cugnasco@gmail.com and we'll remove it.
